Say what you will about Riverdale, but the show definitely isn't lacking when it comes to pulpy atmosphere and visuals. The series has only further embraced its noir and crime drama elements in season 3, between its True Detective-inspired storyline involving the mysterious Gargoyle King and Veronica's ongoing struggle for power with Hiram - the latter of which has already resulted in Archie (K.J. Apa) being framed and imprisoned for committing murder by Hiram, as a way to punish his daughter. A plot thread involving a speakeasy where the "classy clientele (are) dressed to the nines drinking mocktails" (as the synopsis for this week's episode puts it) doesn't seem at all out of place in the show's strangely stylized noir setting, either.
